This is taken from an old German fairytail. A young princess has her Brothers changed into three ravens. For them to revert to human form she must remain silent for three years, three months, three weeks and three days. The number three features pretty heavily in this story.
If anyone wants to try it, the witch (portrayed by the wicked stepmother {Are there any other sorts of Stepmother?}) says the following curse over the brothers:
The shirt will hurt; The wings will sting; The beak will shriek; The eyes will cry.It may be worth a try on an enemy... or maybe yourself ;)
